Disability Awareness Training
Who is the training for?

The course was made for new staff joining the Adult Learning Disability Service. It could be of interest for any staff group in Sunderland who support people with a learning disability.

What is the aim of the course?

The course helps staff to understand why having the right values towards people with a learning disability is so important. We look at examples to show how people have been treated in the past and why people are supported in different ways now. We use a lot of film and photographs around the lives of people who live in Sunderland.

What does the course cover?

Understanding what we mean by learning disability.

  • Understanding the social model of disability and the medical model of disability.
  • Examples from history.
  • Developments in support and services in Sunderland.
  • Current developments.

 

How much does the course cost?

 

For organisations that do not help with our funding we charge £250 for a 10am - 3.30pm one day session.
